Donald Christopher has been officiating high school football with the Fairfield County Football Officials Association since 1996. During this period, Don has been an active and distinguished member of the association, both on and off the field.
His State Football Tournament resume includes three finals, three semi-finals and seven quarterfinals. Don also had the distinction to have worked three Fairfield County Intercollege Athletic Conference (FCIA) championship games.
Off the field, Don has been a new official's trainer since 2009, served on the banquet committee since 2010, has been a member of the Better Officiating Committee since 2010 and has served as the Sub-Varsity Assignor since 2010. In 2016, Don was named the Football Official of the Year by the National Football Foundation Fairfield County Ralph DeSantis/Jerry McDougal Chapter. Then in 2018, Don was inducted into the Norwalk Old Timers Hall of Fame.
Don is a lifelong resident of Norwalk where he distinguished himself as a multiĀ sport athlete. In 1960, Don was an original member of the Cranbury Baseball League in Norwalk where he played the position of catcher. He would continue in the position with the PONY and Bath Ruth leagues, as well as at West Rocks Junior High and Norwalk High School teams. He also played
youth hockey, soccer and was a member of
his high school's track team. Christopher was a youth football standout in the position of fullback and linebacker. He would go on to play varsity football at Norwalk High School for three years, where in 1966 he was a two-way performer at safety and running back and served as a senior captain.
From 1973 to 1980, Christopher was an assistant football coach at Central Catholic High School. His additional coaching accomplishments include four years with the Norwalk Jr. Soccer Association; 12 years with the Cedar Point softball team; and a year with the King School in Stamford as their championship winning coach.
Don's officiating excellence was not confined to the gridiron. He refereed middle school basketball for 22 years and was a member of the Greater Fairfield County Softball Umpires Association for 28 seasons, working several state tournament games.
Don retired from Pitney Bowes in 2014 after 39 years. He has a son Jason and three grandchildren Brayden, Frankie, and Lorelai.
